ABOUT
Tangelene Bolton is a Filipina-American composer and Sundance Composer Fellow whose work spans film, TV, animation, and games. A graduate of Berklee College of Music’s Film Scoring program, she has composed for Netflix’s Warrior Nun Season 2, Comedy Central’s Awkwafina Is Nora from Queens Season 3, Blumhouse’s Unseen, and most recently, Yoko Okumura’s The Last Kiss, an original score for the Blumhouse and Atomic Monster production, released by Universal Pictures Home Entertainment. Her work also includes Ava DuVernay’s ARRAY-distributed documentary For Our Children and the Disney animated short Just a Thought, which premiered at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival. Her musical voice moves fluidly between neoclassical, electronic, folk, jazz, and experimental influences, allowing her to create scores that are intimate, atmospheric, and deeply connected to the worlds of the stories she tells.
Bolton has worked for industry icons including Hans Zimmer, Henry Jackman, and Bobby Tahouri, and contributed additional music to Raphael Saadiq’s score for Freaky Tales (Lionsgate), starring Pedro Pascal and Jay Ellis. The film premiered at the 2024 Sundance Film Festival before receiving a worldwide theatrical release. Her work also includes composing for Do I Know You From Somewhere?, which premiered at the 2026 Tribeca Festival, as well as technical score engineering and drum programming for Marvel’s Avengers and Rise of the Tomb Raider, both developed by Crystal Dynamics. She has developed and recorded her music at the Fox Newman Scoring Stage and Capitol Records, and has conducted and performed premieres of her scores, including with the Hollywood Chamber Orchestra at The Wiltern for The Future Is Female: A Concert for Women in Film.
Bolton is drawn to stories that explore interiority, emotional contradiction, and the moments characters cannot articulate themselves. Her interests span drama, comedy, sci-fi, family, coming-of-age, psychological thriller, and horror, with a particular affinity for projects that center nuanced AAPI characters, women, and other underrepresented voices. She approaches each project as an opportunity to deepen character and create a musical world that feels emotionally and culturally specific to the story. She sees score as a storytelling partner that can deepen a character, reshape the meaning of a scene, or reveal what exists beneath the surface of the image.
Her creative practice is shaped by experimentation and cross-cultural musical traditions. Bolton has performed live improvised electronic scores for film in Los Angeles and studied Filipino Indigenous musical traditions through immersive residency experiences. These experiences have cultivated a process rooted in listening, intuition, curiosity, and collaboration.
